Duquesne University Joins National Network Linking Christianity and Academics

    Jun. 18, 2012

Duquesne University has joined the Lilly Fellows Program National Network, which works to revitalize the relationship between Christianity and the academic vocation.

Established in 1991, the Lilly network consists of 99 colleges and universities from across the country that represent a great variety of religious traditions and institutional types. They work collaboratively to strengthen the religious nature of church-related institutions of higher education through publications and programming, including mentoring programs, faculty exchange programs, workshops, seminars and national research conferences.

“This is a wonderful way to connect to other faith-based institutions,” said Dr. James Swindal, dean of the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts. “Being a member of the network also provides us with access to Lilly Fellows graduate student scholarships and opportunities.”

The network includes Boston College, Grove City College, the University of Notre Dame and Villanova University, among others.

Dr. Ronald Arnett, professor and chair of communication and rhetorical studies, and Dr. Maureen O’Brien, associate professor of theology, will serve as Duquesne’s representatives to the network.
