Author, Attorney Scott Turow to Speak at Law Alumni Reunion Dinner

    Apr. 14, 2011

Award-winning writer and attorney Scott Turow will be the special guest speaker at Duquesne University Law School’s Alumni Reunion Dinner this weekend.

Turow, whose books have sold more than 25 million copies worldwide, is the author of works including Presumed Innocent and The Burden of Proof, as well as Ultimate Punishment, a reflection on the death penalty, which earned him the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award in 2004. His works have also appeared in Vanity Fair, The New York Times and the Washington Post.

A partner in the Chicago-based office of SNR Denton since 1986, Turow focuses on white-collar criminal defense as well as pro bono work. In one such case, he successfully represented Alejandro Hernandez in the appeal that resulted in Hernandez’s release after nearly 12 years in prison—including five on death row—for a murder he did not commit.

Turow is a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School, and has served various professional organizations, including the Illinois State Appellate Defender’s Commission and the Illinois State Police Merit Board. He is president of the Authors Guild, the nation’s largest membership organization of professional writers.

“We are thrilled that Scott Turow has agreed to join us at our Alumni Reunion Dinner as part of the law school’s Centennial celebration,” said Ken Gormley, dean of the School of Law. “He is one of the most gifted fiction and non-fiction writers of our time, but he also has continued to make enormous contributions to the legal profession. Scott Turow is not only an internationally acclaimed author, he is a lawyer’s lawyer.”

    When: Saturday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Where: The Power Center Ballroom, Duquesne University, Forbes Ave. at Chatham Sq., Pittsburgh.
