Forget Watson: Duquesne Business Students Host Jeopardy-Style Business Competition

    Mar. 21, 2011

For the second year, business students will gather at Duquesne University to pit their project management prowess against the skills of students from three other universities.

The Intercollegiate Project Management Triathlon 2011, hosted at Duquesne from March 25-27, tests undergraduate students’ knowledge of the Project Management Body of Knowledge guide through their responses to case-based scenarios.

Students have three competitive venues to flaunt their skills:

    • Team Quiz Bowl. Teams of four students compete in a Jeopardy-style event, with questions based on the guide standards. The difficulty level is equivalent to that required to achieve the Certified Associate in Project Management designation.
    • Individual All-Star Quiz-Bowl. Another Jeopardy-style event, this is the one-on-one version of the team play.
    • Quick Fire Challenge. Teams will be given a project management scenario.  They will have one hour to develop and submit three project management documents.  Teams will be evaluated on the quality of these documents.

“Students preparing and participating for this event are gaining valuable project management knowledge, networking with project managers and becoming well-positioned to earn their Certified Associate in Project Management from the Project Management Institute,” said Dr. Kathleen Hartzel, associate professor of information systems management at Duquesne and a key organizer of the event.

The teams competing with Duquesne will be Marquette University, the University of South Carolina and West Virginia University.
