Christine M. Sciullo of Bloomfield received a 2010 Duquesne University Mind, Heart and Spirit Award.
Mind, Heart and Spirit Awards recognize Duquesne alumni who exemplify the pillars of the University’s mission—academic excellence; moral and spiritual values; ecumenism and diversity; service; and world concerns.
Sciullo, who received her bachelor’s degree in education from Duquesne in 1984 and her master’s degree in 1989, was honored in the category of service.
Once a student at Immaculate Conception School, she has taught there for more than 25 years. She also teaches and coordinates religious education programs for public school students and developed an initiative that keeps high school-age alumni connected with their elementary school and parish. Working with parents, even while facing a life-threatening illness, Sciullo has fought tirelessly for the preservation of the parish school as an anchor of the Bloomfield community.
Sciullo and four other Mind, Heart and Spirit honorees received their awards at a luncheon on the Duquesne campus on Nov. 7.
