    Forensic Fridays Seminar Examines DNA Analysis

    The Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law’s Forensic Fridays series continues with Forensic DNA Analysis: An Introduction.

    This seminar is designed to offer prosecuting and defense attorneys, law enforcement officers, judges and others involved in the criminal justice system the opportunity to gain a fundamental understanding of the identification value and limitations of DNA evidence.  Among other topics, the speakers will discuss Commonwealth v. Foley, a recent case that resulted in the successful prosecution of a former state trooper for the slaying of a Blairsville dentist.

    Featured speakers include:

    • Dr. Mark W. Perlin, chief executive officer and chief scientific officer, Cybergenetics
    • Anthony J. Krastek, deputy senior state attorney general
    • Michelle L. Collins, assistant public defender, Allegheny County.

    Forensic Fridays was developed by the Wecht Institute to offer continuing legal education opportunities on a regular basis and in shorter courses better suited to the busy schedules of professionals.

    When: Friday, Oct. 8, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.

    Where: Duquesne Room, Duquesne Union, Duquesne University, 600 Forbes Ave., Pittsburgh.

    Information: Three hours of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) and three hours of ACT 48 credits will be offered for this seminar. Cost: $30 per person for the general public, $10 for students, $45 for public attorneys and $75 for private attorneys. Call 412.396.1330 for more information.
