Nist Named Director of Duquesne Business School Graduate Programs

    Jul. 19, 2010

Thomas J. Nist, Donahue Chair in Investment Management at Duquesne University, has been named director of graduate programs in the Donahue Graduate School of Business.

After more than 25 years in the commercial banking industry, serving as senior vice president and small business segment manager in PNC Bank’s Business Banking Division, among other positions, Nist came to Duquesne on a full-time basis in 2007.

Nist, associated with the Duquesne business school for more than 15 years as an adjunct faculty member and professor, has been a part of this respected, successful program and sees its momentum leading to changes.

“Duquesne has been known as a quality provider of graduate business education for 50 years,” Nist said. “Our values-based programs focus on preparing the next generation of managers by developing core decision-making skills and blending them with an understanding of contemporary business issues: globalization, sustainability, relationships with stakeholders, risk management, emerging workforces and responsible financial management.

“I’m inspired by the energy our students bring to the program,” he said.

Nist has leveraged his knowledge to launch an investment fund with student-portfolio managers at Duquesne. He also advises the student Finance Investment Management Association (FIMA), coordinates the finance and investment advisory boards, and manages outreach and visibility with the corporate and professional investment community.

For instance, one collaboration with the professional community involves FIMA and the CFA Society of Pittsburgh in a program that teaches finance literacy to area high school students.

Nist earned a master of business administration degree with a concentration in finance and marketing from Arizona State University and a B.S. in business administration from Duquesne University.
