Duquesne University Community Contributes $33,000 to Spiritans in Haiti

The Duquesne University community has rallied to help the congregation of Spiritans whose school and residence were destroyed by the Jan. 12 earthquake in Haiti.
On March 30, Duquesne University President Charles J. Dougherty presented a check for $33,000 to the Rev. Paulin Innocent, C.S.Sp., provincial superior of the Spiritan Foundation in Haiti, after Innocent talked about the devastation at a special campus event.

It’s what former Pittsburgh Steeler Jerome Bettis has publicly referred to as “the NFL’s dirty little secret.” Concussions and their long-term effects—such as memory loss and mental illness—among professional football players has long been a major concern in the medical community. Results from a recent National Football League (NFL) commissioned study indicates Alzheimer’s disease and other memory-related conditions have been diagnosed among former NFL players at a much higher rate than in the national population. Pharmacy Professors, Students Assist in Fight Against a Costly Chronic Health Problem
The alarming results of an asthma study conducted by researchers at Duquesne University and Allegheny General Hospital showed that a majority of inner-city children diagnosed with asthma had poor control of the disease and many other young potential asthmatics were found to be undiagnosed or untreated. These findings were presented at the Feb. 28 American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology annual meeting in New Orleans. Read more »
