Penn Hills Resident Receives Multiple Honors

    Sep. 15, 2009

Tyra Good, the community partnerships coordinator for Duquesne University’s Office of Service Learning, recently received three prestigious honors.

Good has been included in the 11th annual 40 Under 40 winners, a yearly awards program that recognizes young leaders in the community. Sponsored by Pittsburgh Magazine and the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project, 40 Under 40 awardees are selected for their commitment, visibility, diversity and impact on the region.

In addition, Good has been named co-chair of the 21st Century Advisory Board, which supports, advances and advocates for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers.  A program of the Pennsylvania Department of Education, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly those who attend high-poverty and low-performance schools.

Good also has been selected as a Barbara L. Jackson Scholar by the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA). In this role, she is part of the UCEA Barbara L. Jackson Scholars Network, which supports graduate students of color who are studying in UCEA members’ educational leadership doctoral programs and who plan to enter the professoriate.

A member of the 2012 cohort of the Interdisciplinary Doctorate for Educational Leadership in Duquesne’s School of Education, Good also serves as director of education at Youth Places and is the founder and chief executive officer of Good Knowledge Connections.

    Good resides in Penn Hills.
