Duquesne Partners With VA to Help Vets Pay for Education

    Jul. 13, 2009

Duquesne University has entered into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to participate in the Post-9/11 GI Bill’s Yellow Ribbon Program.

Through the program, which is effective Aug. 1, up to 200 eligible veterans can receive a tuition waiver from Duquesne combined with additional financial assistance from the Department of Veterans Affairs, enabling them to study tuition-free on a full or part-time basis as either an undergraduate or graduate student at Duquesne University.

Passed by Congress last year, the Post-9/11 GI Bill is the most extensive educational assistance program authorized since the original GI Bill was signed into law in 1944. Congress intended the Yellow Ribbon Program to be utilized by universities to make up the difference in the costs for out-of-state, private or graduate tuition.

The Yellow Ribbon Program is reserved for participants at the 100 percent benefit level, specifically those who have served at least 36 months on active duty or served at least 30 continuous days and were discharged due to a service-related injury.

In addition to the Yellow Ribbon Program, Duquesne University’s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement offers military tuition rates to active duty, guard and eligible veterans.

For undergraduate information, contact Duquesne’s Office of Admissions at 412.396.6221. For graduate information, call 412.396.6000 and ask to be connected to the specific graduate school of interest.
