Human Rights Film Series Presents Fast Food Nation

    Jan. 22, 2009

Duquesne University presents a free screening of Fast Food Nation as part of its second annual Human Rights Film Series,Abundance and Abuse.

Inspired by the best-selling book of the same name by Eric Schlosser, Fast Food Nation is a “mockumentary” that examines the health risks and environmental and societal impact of the fast food industry. A key focus of the film is how the U.S. meat processing industry exploits illegal Mexican immigrants.

The screening of Fast Food Nation will begin with an introduction by Rick Rehak, a marketing director from McDonald’s Corp., who will discuss his company’s social responsibility initiatives.

Organized by Duquesne’s Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Abundance and Abuse film series features a lineup of award-winning films that address vital issues, from the ethics of global business to the destruction of the environment.

    Monday, Jan. 26, at 7 p.m

Room 105, College Hall, Duquesne University, 600 Forbes Ave

The series is free and open to the public, and runs through Wednesday, Feb. 25. For more information, visitwww.duq.edu/humanrights or call 412.396.6415.
