White Coat Ceremony Marks Rite of Passage for Pharmacy Class of 2011

    Aug. 27, 2007

Nearly 200 students from Duquesne’s Mylan School of Pharmacy class of 2011 will be inaugurated into the professional phase of their program at the University’s annual formal White Coat Ceremony.

Students entering their third year of studies in the pharmacy school will be presented with the white coats that they will wear during their laboratory work and experiential education.  More than 450 Duquesne administrators, pharmacy faculty, and family and friends of the students are expected to attend the ceremony. A reception will follow.

“The white coat has long been a symbol of the relationship of trust between patients and pharmacists since the apothecary days,” explained Dr. J. Douglas Bricker, dean of the Mylan School. “This ceremony, where students don their white coats and recite a pledge of professionalism, marks their commitment to the profession.”

Dr. Felix Gyi, Chief Executive Officer of Chesapeake Research Review Inc., will deliver the keynote address.  After receiving their white coats, the class will then recite the pharmacy Pledge of Professionalism.
