    Duquesne Names Director of Center for Teaching Excellence

    Dr. Laurel Willingham-McLain has been named director of the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at Duquesne University.She will lead the CTE in providing instructional resources to faculty and teaching assistants in order to promote student learning, as well as support the academic career development of current and future faculty across the University. She will also continue to coordinate the academic student-learning outcomes assessment initiative at Duquesne, for which she serves as a co-chair.

    Willingham-McLain has served as associate director of the CTE since 1999, and has also taught in the School of Leadership and Professional Advancement, and the McAnulty College and Graduate School of Liberal Arts at Duquesne. In addition, she has held posts at the University of Pittsburgh; Carnegie Mellon University; the University of Lille, France; and Indiana University, Bloomington.

    A resident of Pittsburgh’s West Oakland neighborhood, Willingham-McLain holds a bachelor’s degree in French from Asbury College, and both a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in French linguistics from Indiana University.
