Duquesne will welcome more than 180 representatives from 28 national and regional higher education institutions for the third annual Pittsburgh Blackboard Users Group (PBUG) Conference. The conference, on Monday, Nov. 21 and Tuesday, Nov. 22, will be held in Duquesne’s Bayer Learning Center.
PBUG consists of representatives from 26 colleges and universities in the Pittsburgh region that utilize Blackboard software for online courses and other components of e-learning. The conference aims to increase understanding and usability of the Blackboard software suite, as well as address issues central to e-learning. The conference will open Monday with a keynote address by Blackboard chairman and co-founder Matthew Serbin Pittinsky, who will discuss the impact of the Internet on higher education. Trained as a social studies teacher, Pittinsky co-founded Blackboard in 1997 with a mission to transform the Internet into a powerful environment for teaching and learning. Today, the company serves 2,200 client institutions, including colleges, universities, and K-12 schools, as well as textbook publishers.
PBUG was founded in 2003 to promote collaborative opportunities, share ideas, experiences, resources and documents relating to the instructional uses and support of Blackboard among Pittsburgh area colleges and universities.
